This special report on the Elkin Valley Trails Association airs each Thursday afternoon at 2:05. Host Dr. Bill Blackley updates listeners on the activities and progress of the Association.
The mission of the Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA), an affiliate of NC Rail Trails, is to increase the quality of life in the Elkin Valley by building and promoting a network of trails and greenways that will provide educational opportunities, preserve our area history, promote health and wellness, provide economic opportunities and promote an appreciation and a respect for our environment in Wilkes, Surry and Yadkin Counties and connect with trails that link to the rest of North Carolina.
Elkin is located in the heart of the beautiful Yadkin Valley wine-growing region and is in a unique location to ultimately be a hub for local trails. We are in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than half an hour from Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We can boast a segment of the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Yadkin River Trail Blueway, and the beginnings of our big project. the E&A Rail Trail, that will ultimately connect with the NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail at Stone Mountain.
WIFM thanks Dr. James Walter, Dr. Jason Ringeman and Salem Oral Surgery for their sponsorship of this weekly report.
